Campeche Beach

It was a perfect Sunday: sunny and hot and the beach was right there.
The city of Florianopolis is on Santa Catarina Island, a beautiful tropical island in the south of Brazil, with 42 astonishing beaches for all tastes: quiet or rough waters, warm and cold temperatures, busy and deserted beaches.
Today we will visit Campeche, my favourite beach.
My brother Juca and his family live here in a very cozy house with a huge backyard.
Banana trees are everywhere. Actually my brother has lots of fruit growing in his backyard: lemons, oranges, passion fruit, avocados, pumpkins, prunes, pitanga (a kind of berry), guava and star fruit.

Beach girl, and my cute niece Carolina.

My brother´s house is about a 10 minute walk from the beach. On the way there you have to walk through a little wet area with a river and dunes.

There it is!!

With 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) of white sands and a turbulent waters, Campeche is considered the Jeffreys Bay of the Santa Catarina Island for the quality of its waves. For those who are not interested in surfing, the beach offers other attractions. The paradisaical beauty of Ilha do Campeche, for instance, located across from the beach, a football game on the Saint-Exupéry aviation field, or even fishing, are some of the leisure alternatives. At night, Campeche is also an excellent attraction. The huge reflector that illuminates part of the large sand strip in front of the bars only contributes to the partying that extends far into the night. The illumination favours both those who enjoy the merrymaking as well as the fishermen, who use the time to drag their nets in from the sea.

I have no idea how you call this moluscus.

In the background, Campeche Island. It is paradise, with it´s refreshing waters and rich green surroundings. You can get a boat ride for about $15 a person and spend the day on that island. We were just happy to stay on Campeche beach today, since the water was amazing too.
