Thursday, Feb. 16 - Playa Del Carmen - Going back to Mexico

Team Adidas work up early in the morning - 5 am - for another adventure.
This time it' s short one... to Playa Del Carmen, at the Maya Riviera, Mexico.
We flew it Cancun and drove one hour south to our Resort.

Note: The Adidas is a family tradition.
My parents used to dress us up to go on family trip, when we were kids.
Now Mike and I try to do the same with the girls.

My siblings and I wearing Adidas in the early 80s, during a family trip in Brazil.
I am the baby.

This is a 5 day escape from the Canadian winter, to a all inclusive resort. We did last year at the same time, to the Dominican Republic and we absolutely loved the break.
So, here we are... trying another Caribbean destination.

Our resort: Hotel Paradisus.

FROM WIKIPEDIA: Playa del Carmen is a Mexican city, head of the municipality of Solidaridad , Quintana Roo . According to data from the Population and Housing Census of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) for the year 2020 , it has a population of 304,942 inhabitants, making it the second most populous city in Quintana Roo, and it is also the 57th most populous city. populated by Mexico .

It is within the tourist area called " Riviera Maya ". The city (located at coordinates 20.62° north and 87.07° west) is bathed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea and its main economic activity is tourism .  This comes hand in hand with the fact that a lot of employment is also generated in the construction industry, this is the second most important industry in the municipality.

Carps.

The Caribbean Sea right in the back.
I teared up.

I love the colourful decoration.

Guess what the "Gabi Club"
 is?  The bar!
haha

Lovely friends.

Some of the rooms have direct connection to the poll.
Beautiful!

The beach is gorgeous, but the strong winds and big waves kept us out of the water today.

Still, the girls could play in these small natural swimming pools.
I liked to see many local enjoyed the beach as well.

Happy family at sunset.

My silly beach girl.

Sunset.

We walked through a mangrove area to get to the beach, with different species.

FROM WIKIPEDIA: The Mayan Corridor mangroves ecoregion covers the mangrove habitats along the Caribbean Sea coast of the state of Quintana Roo in southern Mexico and a narrow strip on the north of Belize. The region is named for the Maya Civilization archeological sites along the coast. Biodiversity in the area high due to the interactions of different environments - coastal lagoons, river estuaries, coral reefs, and barrier beaches. The ecoregion supports Mexico's largest population of crocodiles (Crocodylus moreletii).

Mexican cultural dolls at an event in the hotel.

This little guy hanging around is like a smaller version of a racoon.
They are popular in Brazil as well and are called Coati.

Coati's are little creatures that look like a cross between a raccoon, monkey and an anteater. They are common in Central and South America, comparable to raccoons in Canada, but they're much more friendly (at least the ones we saw).

The hotel at night.

Not bad for the first day:
Te quiero, Mexico!
