She patiently waited for two years. The deal was a trip to New York City to celebrate her 7th birthday (in 2020), but the pandemic had us changing the plans. Now, my baby is 9 years old and here we are, in the Big Apple to celebrate her life.
We decided to fly Porter airlines for the convenience and to avoid all the craziness going on at Pearson Airport, in Toronto.
Giggio and Mary could not have missed it, of course.
They followed Fifi everywhere.
As soon as we arrived in Newark airport and got the train from New Jersey to New York, I got an Emergency Alert on my phone for severe thunderstorm and chances of flash flood.
A bit concerning, but it was totally fine in the end.
Waiting for the storm to pass.
We are staying on the 17th floor of Riu Times Square, a couple of blocks from busiest part of New York.
It felt like COVID is not really a concern here, since most of people are not wearing masks and not keeping their distance, but there are tents like these every few blocks.
Still, I haven't seen anymore getting tested.
Our top of the list: Ellen's Stardust Dinner.
The food is not that great and overpriced, but the entertainment is great.
The servers are broadway artists between contracts who take turns singing to the clients.
We had a blast!
From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellen%27s_Stardust_Diner
Ellen's Stardust Diner is a retro 1950s theme restaurant located at 1650 Broadway[ on the southeast corner of 51st Street in Theater District, Manhattan, New York City. The diner is regarded as one of the best theme restaurants in New York owing to its singing waitstaff. The diner also contains retro-themed memorabilia such as photos of many past Miss Subways on the walls, an indoor train, a 1956 Predicta television, and a “drive-in theater” screen that showcases performances of the 1950s. It is popular among children and adults.
Second on the list: the M&M Store!
The expression "like a kid in a candy store" could be invented here today, with Sofia going crazy up and down the three floors.
Time Square is right there.
This is my 5th time in New York City, but it always blows my mind!!!!
