Back on the Road...Back in Brazil!

After almost 4 months away from my travelling blog, here I am again!

It´s school holidays and I headed south again to see my family and friends in Florianopolis, in the south of Brazil. Most of the day I am just hanging out with my family, but I will try to post some of the fun tours around this beautiful island.

Today we had so much fun at Lagoa do Peri, a little paradise not too far from my brother´s house. The 5 km² lagoon is the largest fresh water body in the Santa Catarina State coast. The protected area is a park and often is used by schools to teach children about the environment.

Although the weather wasn´t the best - it was a cloudy day - , it didn´t stop the kids from having an amazing time, mostly in the water.

Picnic time with long time friends Laura, Dauro and family; and new friends visiting from Norway.

Vitor, my nephew having fun with some Barba de Velho (translating: old man´s beard).

Carol, my niece enjoying ice cream time!

And for the grown ups a different kind of treat: red wine!

Eirik and Helene (from Norway) introduced a great tradition: Saturday is candy day for kids. They went crazy, like little ants around sugar!

My little fish!

Relaxing time for me and the baby.

Beautiful Bromelias are growing on trees all around the park.

A big surprise: a toucan is flying around the park. It was born in captivity but its owners are slowing trying to make it go back to nature. Apparently it is working and slowing it is getting used to the woods.

Another fun surprise: little monkeys running around! They are called Miquinhos and come close to you to eat bananas.

They are common in this area, a vast Atlantic Forest.

After the little monkey´s show we headed to another beach close by: Pantano do Sul for dinner and more fun.

On the menu: oyters, grilled fish, callamari, salad, fries and rice and beans, of course!

This is one of my favourite spots on the island. It´s a very calm, well preserved fishermen village. A highly recommended place for sea food gastronomy.

And kids are still having a blast, now playing soccer.

A photo to always remember such a fun day!
